REYKJAVIK MARATHON 8 DAYS

We are one of the tour operators that organize trips for the Reykjavik Marathon; we offer a package with the Hotel located close to the start line of the Marathon.
Day 1 the 19th of August 2013
Arriving in Keflavik, transferred to your Hotel
Day 2 the 20th of August
We will pick you up at your hotel and start our 3 day trip with the well known Golden Circle, visiting places such as Thingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir. Thingvellir is the national park where all major events took place in Iceland from the year 930 until the year 1798. It is also protected by UNESCO since 2004. From there we head off to Gullfoss (golden fall), a beautiful waterfall and one of the biggest in Iceland. Thereafter it will be Geysir a hot water spring, Geysir started to erupt in the year 1294 and there close by we will find Strokkur which spew´s hot water every 5 minutes. Then to the South-Coast passing the villages Hella and Hvolsvöllur and visit the waterfall Seljalandsfoss. After passing the small village Vik and ongoing to Kirkjubæjarklaustur where we´ll spend the night in Hotel Laki.
Day 3 the 21th of August
After breakfast we will start the day by visiting Jökulsárlón a glacier lagoon with floating icebergs in the roots of Europe´s biggest glacier Vatnajökull. The scenery is amazing and very photogenic. The next stop is the National Park in Skaftafell where we´ll take a walk up to the special waterfall of Svartifoss (Black fall). It is surrounded by dark lava columns. We will reach Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the evening where we´ll have dinner and spend the night in the surroundings of two glaciers.
Day 4 the 22th of August
Today we head back to the city of Reykjavík, our first stop is the small village of Vik, Reynisdrangar a black basalt columns sculptured by the sea and the black sand beaches, Dyrholaey a small peninsula and then Skógar where we visit the Folk museum. Before we reach Reykjavík we will visit the geothermal plant in Hellisheiði, which provides the area around Reykjavík electricity and warm water. The evening is at your own leisure, with an overnight stay in your Hotel.
Day 5 the 23th of August
The morning is spent as you wish, in the afternoon we will meet in the Marathon EXPO Laugardalshöll Sports Hall, to pick up the Race package with your bib number, chip for timing, t-shirt etc. In the evening a Pasta party will be enjoyed.
Day 6 the 24th of August
The Marathon starts at 09:40. After the Marathon you will have free access into all the swimming pools in Reykjavík which are very popular due to its warm water temperature, they normally have steam baths and hot Jacuzzis. The night will include concerts and fireworks because the Icelanders are celebrating Culture Night.
Day 7 the 25th of August
The day is dedicated to the city of Reykjavík at your leisure. Possibly by enjoy a walk around the centre, places to visit: Hallgrímskirkja the largest church in Iceland go to the top and enjoy the view over the city, the city hall (Ráðhús Reykjavik), the pond, Laugavegur the main shopping street, or just visit one of the museum´s and sense the atmosphere in this colourful northernmost capital of the world. A trip to the Blue Lagoon is optional for a relaxing bath.
Day 8 the 26th of August
Transportation to the airport for your departure.
